Looking Back to Move Forward: WPA at Kodner Gallery
Apr 1 – Dec 31, 2020

The economic effects of the Great Depression lead to one of the largest efforts of the government to prioritze the arts and sparked the careers of some of the most iconic artists of the 20th Century, including Thomas Hart Benton, Joseph Vorst, Robert Tindall, Birger Sandzen, and Paul Sample, among countless others.

The works from this period stand as a testament to American tenacity. The WPA showed the country's ability to persevere through adversity and ended up producing something extraordinary out of a time of strife. Art and artists from this period boldly elevate the core of what it means to live an American life.

Kodner Gallery proudly presents a selection of works available at the gallery from WPA era artists.

If you are interested in learning more about these works, please call (314) 993-4477 for more information.
