Missouri Modern: The Work of Louis Bartig (1933-2017)

A well-loved, local artist who was always creating or fixing wonderful pieces of art work. Louis Bartig was a graduate of University City High School and an alumnus of Washington University with the unusual dual degrees in Fine Arts and Commercial Arts. A dedicated husband to his wife, Gretchen E. Bartig (nee Fansin) of 60 years. They first met at Sears where his artist career began as a window dresser. They married on Christmas Eve. He served in the Army at Fort Lewis, WA. On returning he was Art Director at Edison Brothers mainly designing women's shoes and hand bags for 28 years. He gained his patronage through Morton D. May of May Department Stores, who supported his work. His paintings and models are in various gallery's, museum's, and private collections around the United States.
