The Kodner Gallery
Art Therapy Program at
Ranken Jordan Pediatric Specialty Hospital |
The
Kodner Gallery Art Therapy Program at Ranken Jordan Pediatric
Specialty Hospital aims to benefit youth who require special
care, and who would gain faster physical and emotional recovery
through art therapy. This multi-faceted program is comprised
of many important elements for a special-needs child’s
development: Muscular coordination, tactile stimulation and
expression; the educational appreciation of art; and, their
emergent self-esteem. Central to the program, the children
will have the opportunity to meet and work with nationally-known
artists.
The Kodner Gallery Art Therapy Program was launched in 2005 with
the help of internationally-known contemporary artist, Christopher H. Martin, who created
an original artwork with the children at Ranken Jordan. This painting was
then auctioned off to benefit the art therapy program. Since its
inauguration, the programs has welcomed several nationally-known artists to work
with the children of Ranken Jordan. Artists such as Joan
Parker and Joseph Orr have found interesting and unique ways
to create artwork with these extraordinary children.
In August of 2007, Christopher H. Martin returned
to St. Louis to participate in the program which he helped
to launch two years earlier. He spent a morning with
a group children at Ranken Jordan and together, they created
another masterpiece. This painting will be auctioned
off to benefit the Kodner Gallery Art Therapy Program at an
upcoming exhibition of Christopher Martin's new work at Kodner
Gallery in Ladue, opening on November 1st, 2007.
